Historically, Sanand is linked with the Pandavas. When Arjun was coming back from Godhavi (a village near Sanand), it is said that he took rest at this place. He is said to have derived immense pleasure from his stay and hence the name of the city became Sa (with) + Anand (pleasure).

In the 21st century today, a suburb west of Gujarat’s financial capital, Sanand is now a belt of land that has etched a name for itself on the map of industrial development. Having caught the eyeballs of major industrial players from all across the globe, Sanand is poised to attract investments to the tune of Rs. 25,000 crore over the next five to seven years.

Famously known for being the home of the prestigious Tata Nano plant, Sanand has even attracted Ford to invest over $906 Million to setup its auto plant in the vicinity. The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate, which is shaping up just outside the Nano plant, has received applications from several companies to setup their industrial plants. Apart from this, Sanand is also emerging as an engineering hub with over 58 companies already having bought land in and around Sanand.

At the rate at which Sanand’s industrial development is brewing, Sanand can safely be considered as one of the epicentres of the booming economy of Gujarat.

With a Rs. 2000 crore education park-based city coming up in the vicinity and the enchanting Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary just a few kilometers away, Sanand is the place to be.
